May: The Month of Awakening
Share
There is something about May that always feels different to me. The earth softens, the mornings brighten earlier, Birdsong returns before we are fully awake and somewhere within ourselves, something begins stirring too.
I always feel May as a month of awakening. Not necessarily becoming someone new, but remembering parts of ourselves that went quiet through the darker months. The true time that my spirit really begins to step forward from the hibernation.
This is the season where I notice people slowly beginning to come back to themselves again and perhaps you have felt it too. A desire to open the windows, to walk barefoot on the grass, to light candles later in the evening instead of earlier, to reconnect with your body, your magic, your energy, your life. May carries movement, gentle natural movement.
Historically, this time of year was deeply connected to fertility, growth, abundance, passion and life force energy. The land itself becomes abundant. Flowers bloom wildly. Herbs begin growing stronger. The air feels charged with possibility. This is why so many witches and wise women worked closely with the energy of May, to become aligned with growth itself and I think that is something important to remember... You do not need to rush your awakening.
Nature never hurries and yet everything blooms.
This is a small ritual I’ve been doing lately. Just an intentional and simple ritual on a quiet morning or evening:
- Light a candle
- Open a window if you can
- Place your hands over your heart
- Take three slow breaths
Then softly whisper "I welcome myself back to life again.”
A simple moment of returning.
May is simply asking you to open. To listen, to reconnect, to allow yourself to feel inspired again and sometimes magic begins exactly there… in the smallest shift. A deeper breath, a longer walk, a moment of stillness beneath the moon.
One thing that has helped me deeply over the years is learning to move with the lunar cycles rather than against myself. Some phases ask us to grow, others ask us to rest and some ask us to release and the more I honour that rhythm, the more grounded my magic feels. This is one of the reasons I created The Lunar Way, a gentle monthly space for living alongside the moon in a softer, more intentional way. Nothing overwhelming. Just quiet guidance, reflections, rituals and practices to return to throughout the month whenever you need them. A companion for those who wish to walk a little more slowly and a little more magically.
If April felt heavy, May reminds us that life still wishes to bloom through us, gently, naturally like Earth itself and perhaps your awakening does not need to look dramatic, perhaps it simply begins with choosing to open the window again.
With love,
Nadina 🖤✨
